The three children aren’t just subject to strict rules because of the etiquette they must learn as royals; some of them are directly related to Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis and the resulting chemotherapy treatment she’s undergoing as a preventative measure.
According to one source who spoke to OK! Magazine in April 2024, some of the new rules include cleaning up after themselves and preparing snacks for themselves. Besides this increased responsibility, they were also told to wash their hands more frequently, as Kate is very susceptible to germs while undergoing chemotherapy. Based on what the same source reported, Kate and William’s firstborn, George, is doing a superb job helping out his siblings with these tasks, and Charlotte “loves keeping Louis in line.” Teamwork makes the dream work!
The kids even started stepping up for their mother before the world heard about Kate’s cancer treatment. A family friend who spoke to Us Weekly in January 2024 said that the kids made heartwarming ‘get well soon’ cards for Kate and even made some of her “favorite snacks.”
Along with maintaining maximum hygiene and helping out around the house, the kids were told that they must be gentle with their mother and play gently in her vicinity. Unfortunately, due to visitor rules, Princess Charlotte of Wales, Prince George of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales were not allowed to visit Middleton when she was staying at the London Clinic hospital, but they did get to see her after she returned to the family home on January 29.
Based on news from an inside source who talked to In Touch Weekly in February, Middleton was glad to undergo the rest of her recovery from the comfort of her home but that she was having trouble staying still. The source added that “Kate isn’t one to stay still” and that the doctor’s instruction to restrict movement and not do any heavy lifting was difficult for her.
To make things easier, William told the children not to be “too boisterous and loud.” Louis, the youngest, sometimes forgets that his fragile mother shouldn’t be “jostled.” Besides remaining calm in Catherine, Princess of Wales’ presence, there’s another important rule that absolutely must not be broken, and it has to do with how they speak.
William and Kate’s major rule around the house is no yelling. This rule pre-dates Kate’s diagnosis and is the couple’s secret to communication without chaos. Keep calm and carry on, indeed!
Not only are the kids not permitted to yell at each other, but the parents follow the same rule. Neither Catherine, Princess of Wales and William, Prince of Wales raise their voice at their children. A source who spoke to Fabulous in 2020 said that the misbehaving child would be removed from the argument or disruption and “talked to calmly” by one of their parents. Once they’ve simmered down, the parent explains the situation and defines the consequences that will result from these actions. The insider added that of Kate and William, Kate is the stricter one.
The family nanny, Maria Borrallo, also plays a major role in raising the children, enforcing discipline, and keeping the children in line. The source mentioned that while the Wales couple isn’t afraid to be stern and lay down the law, they somehow have the “magic ability to appear not to be.”
